Manresa City Council presents the axes of Manresa 2022 to the Father General of the Society of Jesus · 31/07/2021

The Mayor of Manresa, Marc Aloy Guàrdia, and the Councilor for Tourism and City Projection, Joan Calmet Piqué, met this morning, at The Cave Sanctuary, with the Father General of the Society of Jesus, Arturo Sosa Abascal . Coinciding with the festivities of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Arturo Sosa will preside this evening the Eucharist of the opening of Manresa Jubilee Gate and he will bless the mosaics created by the artist Marco I. Rupnik in the Cave's walls. This morning's meeting was used to review the activities planned for Manresa in 2022.

This morning the Venezuelan priest Arturo Sosa Abascal, general head of the Society of Jesus, met  with the Mayor of Manresa, Marc Aloy Guàrdia, and the Councilor for Tourism and City Projection and head of Manresa 2022, Joan Calmet Piqué.

In the meeting were discussed the basic themes of the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Ignatius of Loyola's stay in the city, which will be held next year and in the framework of which is planned the Manresa 2022 project and the Ignatian Jubilee Year. During the meeting, they discussed the details of the commemoration program and what it will represent for the city, for the  society as a whole and also for the Jesuit community.

The director of the Diocesan Secretariat for Interreligious Relations, Joan Hernández Serret, who collaborates in the organization of some events of Manresa 2022, Lluís Magriñà Veciana, superior of the Cave of Manresa, and Antonio España Sánchez, provincial of the Society of Jesus in Spain were also present at the meeting.

Father Arturo Sosa, Father General of the Company of Jesus since 2016, has already met with a delegation from Manresa City Council in Rome in 2017. Sosa is in Manresa to preside from the Cave, this evening, coinciding with the celebration of the festivities of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Eucharist of the opening of the Jubilee Gate of Manresa. He will also bless the mosaics created by the artist Marko I. Rupnik in the sanctuary church.
