The city must incorporate a strategic discourse that explains Ignatius's relationship with Manresa in order to successfully achieve the challenges and objectives of the Manresa 2022 project. The city is the starting point of the history of Ignatius and the order he founded.

Therefore, the basis of this project is "to return Ignatius to the city"; that is to say, to make the memoir of Saint Ignatius's stay in the city present again in our streets,  and to regain the historical recognition he had.

Ignatian Manresa consolidates all those locations and heritage elements related to Ignatius' legacy as he passed through the city, in 1522.  This concept includes the places Ignatius visited during his stay and those that were erected in his memory.

We divide them into two groups:

  • The city that hosted and illustrated Ignatius: those places, monuments or experiences lived directly by Ignatius in 1522, whether they exist today or not. Most of these locations are part of the medieval Manresa route, such as the Basilica of La Seu or the Chapel of Sant Pau.
  • The imprint of Saint Ignatius: places, monuments or experiences that remembers and praises the footprint of the saint in the city and the Society of Jesus. They are most of the locations of the baroque route of Manresa. Such as the Sanctuary of the Cave or the Regional Museum -former Col·legi de Sant Ignasi.

You can visit a total of 22 places, distributed throughout the city,  based on which four urban routes have been drawn:

  1. Main Ignatian Route - Historical Center
  2. The way from Montserrat to Manresa - Pilgrim's way
  3. Path of the Valley of Paradise to the Well of Light and St. Paul - Path of the Enlightenment
  4. The route from the Cave to Viladordis - Way of farewell
