The Escolania de Montserrat concert in La Seu basilica
The Escolania de Montserrat's primary purpose is to help the preaching and the Liturgy in general of the monastery through the singing of the choirboys.
They will sing songs to the "Mother of God" and some specific to the different liturgical seasons of the year, many of them composed by the choirmasters of the Montserrat choir over the centuries.
Around 50 years ago, the Choir School began to perform concerts outside the monastery, allowing the music composed in Montserrat to be exported all over Catalonia and the world and also to be heard in other areas other than the religious one. Likewise, the task of the Escolania has been to sing popular music harmonised and arranged by different Catalan composers. Therefore, they will present a small sample of this repertoire with this concert, which can also be heard in Escolania's latest recording.
